What Is The Olympic Club Lake Course?

The Lake Course is the championship course at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California. It has hosted five U.S. Open Championships—in 1955, 1966, 1987, 1998 and 2012—as well as the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open and multiple U.S. Amateur Championships.

The course has produced some of championship golf’s most memorable results, including Jack Fleck’s victory over Ben Hogan in 1955, Billy Casper’s win in 1966 and Webb Simpson’s U.S. Open victory in 2012.

A Historic San Francisco Golf Course

The Lake Course has retained much of the character of its 1927 routing while continuing to evolve for modern championship golf. A major renovation completed by Gil Hanse in 2023 expanded greens and fairways, restored historic bunkering and reworked portions of the routing while respecting the historic course design.

The Olympic Club is also scheduled to host the 2028 PGA Championship and the 2033 Ryder Cup, continuing the Lake Course’s long connection with major championship golf.
